So guys. If you’ve been watching any of my Insta stories lately or seen some of my latest Instagram posts, then you know that I’ve been in London for the past couple of days. And of course, that’s because I’ve been super crazy busy with London FWM! This has actually been my first ever Fashion Week, so you know this is a big deal for me. 🙌🏼
But, before I get into what all went down during my Day 1 (actually day 2) of LFWM, let’s have a chat about where I stayed – the citizenM Tower of London Hotel. citizenM is a hotel brand that you might have heard about before. And there’s pretty good reason for that. citizenM has branded themselves as a luxury and affordable hotel chain that’s perfect for global citizens who don’t want to absolutely murder their bank account to stay at a 5 star hotel – AKA me, myself, and I 😂
And I have to say that I definitely was not disappointed by what we found at citizenM. When you walk in through the front doors, you immediately feel welcomed like it’s your own home. The entire “lobby” area is designed to feel like your own living room – well, if you’re lucky enough to have a house designed like this 🤷🏻♂️ There are newspapers, books, TVs, computers, and whatever else you could need to feel at home. So it takes away from that kind of huge and intimidating factor that you have with a lot of hotel lobbies. Plus, you don’t even have to have someone help you check in! You just hop on one of the computers, enter some info, and boom! You get your room key and you’re ready to go.🏃🏻💨
Now, let’s chat about these rooms. This is by far, was the coolest hotel room I’ve ever seen y’all! The whole room is controlled with an iPad that you find right beside the bed. From the temperature to the color of the lights to lowering and raising up the blinds. Everything is super easy when you don’t even have to leave the bed to turn off the lights 😂. Plus, you can connect your iPhone or MacBook up to the TV via Airplay and stream your music and videos up there. And you can bet that I was jamming out to plenty of Tay Swift now that her music’s back up on Spotify 😱🙌🏼
Besides the room and the lobby, there are plenty of other fantastic parts of this citizenM hotel. For one, the rooftop views of the Tower Bridge and the city are stunning. After seeing so many beautiful sunsets in my life, you would think I couldn’t have my breath taken away anymore from one. But damn. The sunset on our evening at citizenM over the city of London was the best one yet. So when you’re looking for a place to stay in London and grab a beer to hang out on the rooftop, then you’ve got to check out citizenM.
But maybe you’re not going to be in London? No worries! citizenM has hotels in Amsterdam, Glasgow, NYC, Paris, Taipei, and Rotterdam 🌍🙌🏼 You’ve got to stop by and check them out!
Now, onto my first day at LFWM. After we stopped off at citizenM, we headed over to the Topman exhibition, which was an art installation at a brewery. Topman Design is aiming to completely challenge the norms that men’s fashion have been faced with in recent years. From skinny jeans to wide-legged trousers and from gender normative clothing to clothes that are more gender fluid than anything else. The exhibition went through the norms of masculinity that men are stereotyped into and began to challenge those ideas, which was super interesting to see.
After that, we move onto one of my favourite experiences of the entire weekend – my very first catwalk show 😍🐈 As I mentioned, this is my very first fashion week, so this was a pretty big deal for me. This honor went to John Smedley, a luxury British brand. As soon as the catwalk started, I knew that I would be hooked. Watching the models strut down the catwalk wearing some of the most amazing pieces was something I had never experienced and can’t wait to see more of. Plus, I got to sit behind some pretty famous guys (Exhibit A, Exhibit B, and Exhibit C). 😱😱
After that euphoric experience (and I mean euphoric y’all), we went to check out the Blood Brother presentation. Now, Blood Brother is on the cutting edge of British fashion, combing both the practicality and comfort aspect of clothing with subtleties of contemporary garment design. Basically, they’re super innovative and I absolutely loved everything about this presentation, so go check them out!
After that first day of LMFW, I couldn’t have been more excited for what the rest of the weekend had in store. We ended our day with a beer at the absolutely stunning rooftop on the citizenM Tower of London hotel and some pizza to go along with it 🍻🍕
✨LMFW DAY 2 POST COMING SOON✨
