A Night at the Opera with The Canadian Opera Company

Blog post: A Night at the Opera with The Canadian Opera Company

Hi y’all! The other night, Omar and I did something drastic…

We changed out of our workout gear (shocking, I know 😅), put on actually nice human clothes, and went to…drum roll please…THE OPERA! Now I know what you’re thinking. “Matt – why the heck would you go to the opera!? Wouldn’t you rather do something a bit more fun with your night?” Well, my imaginary friend I just made up, you’d be very wrong about that.

The opera is something that so many of us associate with our grandparents or the generations gone by. And sure, there were plenty of older people at the opera when we went! BUT, how many of us younger folk (lol I think I could as old now if I say that) have ever gone to the opera?? How can we shrug something off without even experiencing it before?

I go about life with one thing in mind. I want to experience as many things as I possibly can before my time on this lil blue dot is up 🌎And yes, that indeed includes the opera! 🎭

Thanks to the wonderful team at The Canadian Opera Company, we went to see Così fan tutte by Mozart.I’m not going to spoil anything for y’all because you should TOTALLY go see this show, but here’s the basic synopsis below:

Two young men decide to test their fiancées’ fidelity. The men pretend to depart for war, but come back in disguise and try to woo each other’s girlfriends. They seem to succeed, and the trick is revealed. Each couple is reunited… or are they?

I gotta tell y’all – the HUMOR in this show is something else. I would have never thought of the opera as “funny” before I went, but the actors & actresses just made this show come alive in such a humorous way. Not only that, but the production is stunning, the set is out of this world, AND THE MUSIC 😱The world-class singers, along with the COC orchestra, were absolutely incredible. It was like nothing I’ve ever heard before in my life! 🎶

Now I know what you’re thinking, you imaginary friend of mine. “Matt – the opera costs A FORTUNE. How am I supposed to afford to be this cultured!?” Well, don’t you worry boo! The Canadian Opera Company’s got you covered.

Introducing…The Opera Under 30 Program

If you’re between the ages of 16 and 29, you can get tickets to any show for just $22. That’s like the price for 4 iced coffees at Starbucks 😯You literally can’t beat that to see a world-class show like this one! Want to get the best seats possible? For only $35, you’ll be moved to the best available sets the night of the performance!

P.S. If you bring anyone else with you (no matter their age!), they’ll get the same ticket price as you
